But we know that conference travel costs can be a burden, particularly for people just starting out in publishing or working for an organization where training dollars are scarce. So we&#8217;re excited to announce our 2018 scholarship program, designed to help you join us in Chicago this August.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WordCamp for Publishers is a community-organized event, and it works best when our entire community is represented. If travel support would help you attend, we hope you&#8217;ll <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeYaMrCVG59FqD_cfG51FBIUGqJaZnyYBVJW4LOTQY7Cp9wLA\/viewform\"><strong>apply for a scholarship<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 and we hope everyone will help us spread the word to colleagues and friends who should be there. Here&#8217;s what you need to know:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What we&#8217;re offering<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have a small number of scholarships that provide $500 toward the costs of attending WordCamp for Publishers, this Aug. 8-10 in Chicago. You can use these funds in whatever way best fits your needs: ticket and registration, lodging, meals, airfare or transit, or any other travel costs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When applications are open<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeYaMrCVG59FqD_cfG51FBIUGqJaZnyYBVJW4LOTQY7Cp9wLA\/viewform\">applications are open now<\/a> through 5pm Eastern on Monday, June 18. We\u2019ll notify all applicants by Wednesday, June 20.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How you can describe this event to your organization<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WordCamp for Publishers is a community-organized event that brings together people who use WordPress to manage publications, big or small. It coaches participants on best practices, and encourages collaboration in building open-source tools for publishers. <a href=\"https:\/\/2018-chicago.publishers.wordcamp.org\/sessions\/\">Here are some of the sessions we&#8217;ll have this year<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Who should apply<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anyone who is part of the publishing &amp; technology community, whether your work is primarily technical, editorial, or somewhere in between.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">People working at smaller or regional publishers, who are looking to build skills and bring new resources back to their organizations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students working in college publishing, or preparing for a career in digital publishing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Developers and allies interested in open-source software and protecting the open web.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">People of color, women, and other underrepresented groups in publishing and technology are strongly encouraged to apply.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What happens after you apply<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WordCamp for Publishers will review all applications, and all applicants will hear back from us by <strong>June 20<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In-person events like WordCamp for Publishers are a great way to build skills and connect with people who truly understand the projects and problems you&#8217;re working on every day.
